The Upper Deck Company Signs Links Legend Annika Sorenstam to Represent Golf Brand
Golfer Set To Compete For First Major of the Year
The Upper Deck Company today announce an historic partnership with Ladies
Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam.
Sorenstam and the Upper Deck Company have agreed to an exclusive agreement for
her to join Tiger Woods as official spokespersons for Upper Deck Golf trading
cards and collectibles.
Sorenstam is the first female athlete ever signed by Upper Deck to represent its
products. Annika was among 12 LPGA members (Laura Diaz, Lorena Ochoa and LPGA
Tour Hall of Fame member Juli Inkster) to be included in the First Ladies subset
of the 2003 Upper Deck Golf trading card set (2003), which marked the first time
a woman golfer has ever appeared in a licensed, mainstream golf card set. This
agreement gives the Upper Deck Company exclusive rights to market and distribute
autographed cards and collectibles. Upper Deck's Authenticated team has plans to
introduce a line of products for the serious collector that capture Sorenstam in
action with a line of autographed equipment and pin flags as well as unsigned
framed pictures and golf products and accessories featuring the legendary Swede.
"Every athlete aspires to be recognized as the best in their sport and be part
of a winning team. Today's deal with The Upper Deck Company means that I've
joined a team that is the undisputed leader in the collectibles industry, but
also allows me to be part of a great group of world class athletes representing
their products," said Annika Sorenstam.
"This deal reinforces Upper Deck's reputation for producing the most collectible
and innovative trading cards and memorabilia in the world. It is fitting that
Annika Sorenstam and Upper Deck team up in an exclusive relationship that will
bring exciting products to fans and collectors worldwide," says Group Manager of
Sports Product Development Joe Fallon.
Sorenstam is coming off of a headline grabbing year in which she was the first
woman golfer to play in a PGA Tour event (Bank of America Colonial) in more than
half a century, had 15 Top 10 finishes, and won six events. Annika is the career
money leader on the LPGA tour and has amassed an amazing 48 victories in her
career. For more information on Annika Sorenstam or the Ladies Professional Golf
