McFarlane Proudly Announces Upcoming Wayne Gretzky Figures
The Great One to be part of initial McFarlane's Sports Picks: hockey legends line
McFarlane Toys is proud to announce its new licensing agreement to produce figures of
legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky for sale at major retailers worldwide.
The figures will feature "The Great One" in several on-ice action poses in
uniforms representing all the National Hockey League teams he played for: the
Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers.
Gretzky holds virtually every offensive record in the National Hockey League,
including 10 scoring titles and nine MVP Awards. He helped win four Stanley Cup
Championships and three Canada Cup tournament titles during his illustrious
career that included 18 consecutive All-Star Game appearances, as well as three
All-Star MVP Awards. Additionally, he was the last player to be inducted into
the Hockey Hall of Fame without the mandatory three-year waiting period and his
uniform #99 is retired by each of the NHL's 30 teams.
"As a lifelong hockey fan, minority NHL team owner and a producer of NHL
products, I've always felt that Wayne Gretzky should be at the top of any
hockey-related conversation," said McFarlane Toys founder and CEO Todd
McFarlane. "To have a player that helped expand the interest of hockey across
North America as the first in our line of retired players was essential in
creating an on-going program in a global manner. Wayne Gretzky has always been
my first choice in creating action figures of some of the great hockey
legends."
"These figures will be very life-like and highly detailed," said Gretzky.
"I hope sports fans throughout the world will enjoy collecting them."
The licensing agreement allows McFarlane Toys to produce action figures ranging
in size from 3 to 18 inches. McFarlane's Sports Picks Wayne Gretzky figures will
debut as part of a larger hockey legends line scheduled for release in
September. Additionally, McFarlane Toys is supporting the Wayne Gretzky
Foundation throughout the contract. The foundation is dedicated to providing
less-fortunate youth with the opportunity to experience the sport of hockey.
