Upper Deck Entertainment Vs. System Convention Championship Tournaments Debut
with $10,000 Cash Prize at Wizard World Convention in Philadelphia
Top Players Earn Cash Prizes and Invitations to the $1 Million Upper Deck
Entertainment Professional Circuit
Taking organized play tournaments to new heights, Upper Deck Entertainment
launches the very first Vs. System Convention Championship tournament,
which offers Marvel Trading Card Game fans a chance to win $10,000 in
cash prizes. The first of many Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) $10,000 Convention
Championships will be held on May 23 at the Wizard World convention in
Philadelphia.
The winner will be awarded $2,500 in cash. The other top 20 finishers will earn
cash prizes ranging from $200-$1,500, while the top ten players also earn
invitations to compete in the UDE $1 million Pro Circuit tournament held at Gen
Con Indy this August. For players looking to get some practice in before the big
tournament, UDE will be hosting a special Marvel TCG tournament on Saturday.
"Upper Deck Entertainment has made a huge commitment to support game conventions
of all sizes," said Jeff Donais, Director of the UDE Game Development Group.
"From the smallest 50-person game convention in your local college cafeteria, to
larger conventions such as Gen Con and Origins, UDE will provide support with
its products."
The first two stops of the $1 million Pro Circuit will be held at Gen Con Indy
in August, and Gen Con So Cal in Anaheim in December. In addition, UDE will
host additional Vs. System Pro Circuit tournaments, an extensive
international Vs. System rollout, and the first Vs. System U.S.
Nationals later this year. Dates for these events are TBA. Log onto
www.ude.com/events for an up-to-the-minute listing of major tournaments.
The Vs. System game engine was launched earlier this year with the
release of the highly anticipated Marvel Trading Card Game, and is used
in UDEs upcoming DC Trading Card Game in July. This unique game engine
was designed specifically to support Super Heroes in traditional one-on-one
competition while retaining balance and excitement in multiplayer play.
Development of the game included testing by top professional TCG players from
around the world to ensure that the Vs. System is carefully balanced for
high-level competition, as well as casual play.
The Vs. System game engine will also appear in the Marvel Trading
Card Game Web of Spider-Man booster set, set to release in September, and
in the upcoming DC Trading Card Game Superman, Man of Steel booster set,
which will be released in November.
