‘Smoke’ and Kid Rock Fire Up the NASCAR Stage

From a Devil Without a Cause to just plain Cocky, Atlantic Records recording artist Kid Rock has come full circle with his latest, self-titled release, Kid Rock. On May 29, 2004, he begins a journey aboard the NASCAR racing caravan where he will heat up the NASCAR Busch Series with driver and friend Tony Stewart.

Stewart, the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup champion, will challenge NASCAR’s secondary series driving a special Kid Rock edition of the No. 29 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Kevin Harvick, Inc. (www.kevinharvick.com) during the 300-mile race. In addition to fielding a full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team, the new Kevin Harvick, Inc. race team also will back several entries in the NASCAR Busch Series circuit throughout 2004.

The No. 29 Kid Rock Chevrolet race car includes imagery adapted from the album Kid Rock, which includes the hit single, a cover of the Bad Company classic, Feel Like Makin’ Love, as well as the songs Son of Detroit, Jackson, Mississippi and the Bob Seger-penned Hard Night for Sarah. The car also includes a nod to Stewart’s famous nickname, "Smoke." Stewart earned the moniker based on his noteworthy post-race, celebratory burnouts.

Action Performance Companies Inc., the leader in the design, promotion, marketing and distribution of licensed motorsports merchandise, helped to design the Kid Rock racing machine and will create limited edition replicas of Stewart’s No. 29 Kid Rock 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in a variety of collector scales along with additional merchandise inspired by the Kid Rock NASCAR program.

"Kid Rock has become well known to NASCAR fans from his impromptu ‘show’ at Talladega’s infield or his visits to pit row at Bristol," said Fred Wagenhals, Action’s chairman, president and CEO. "However, this is the first time he has been the focus of a paint scheme on the NASCAR racing stage. I think fans are ready to ‘Rock,’ just like Tony Stewart is ready to take that car directly to the winner’s circle."

Kid Rock Chevrolet race car collectibles and other Tony Stewart merchandise will be available via Action Performance’s standard distribution channels, including trackside, Action Racing Collectables distributors and the members-only Racing Collectors Club of America. To locate an official ARC distributor, contact 1-800-411-8404. To join RCCA, call 1-800-952-0708 or visit goracing.com.

In addition to their on-track connection, Stewart and Kid Rock worked together on the 2003 DVD release Tony Stewart: Smoke. The DVD chronicles Stewart’s life story and rise to racing greatness, including his 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup championship season. Kid Rock narrated the feature, which also includes music from 3 Doors Down.
