Emeka Okafor Inks Exclusive Deal with Topps
The Topps Company announced today that it has signed an exclusive endorsement
deal with Emeka Okafor, the second overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.
The deal grants Topps exclusive rights within the NBA trading card category
for autographed cards, game-worn memorabilia cards, special cards and subsets,
and Okafor's image use on packaging and advertising.
"We are very excited about Emeka joining the Topps family, not only because
of what he represents on the court but also off the court. He will be a
tremendous addition to our franchise of NBA trading card products," said
Scott Siverstein, Executive Vice President of Topps.
Emeka, a college basketball star at the University of Connecticut, was the
second overall pick in last week's NBA Draft by the expansion Charlotte
Bobcats. Considered by scouts as one of the best defensive big men in
years, experts expect the 6'10" shot-blocker to make an immediate impact at
the NBA level. Of the fans polled on NBA.com, 56% believe Okafor will be
the first player from the 2004 Draft to appear in the NBA All-Star Game.
"I am proud to be representing Topps," said Okafor. "I am really
looking forward to being on my first Topps basketball card."
