The Racing World Goes MAD - This Fall, Teams from the NHRA, World of Outlaws and NASCAR® to
Debut MAD Racing
During select fall races in NASCAR, World of Outlaws and the National Hot Rod Association,
fans will be going "MAD" with excitement as MAD Racing steals the show with a
variety of paint schemes that feature some of the best-known characters from the satirical
magazine that debuted in 1952.
While the stock cars, drag racing machines and sprint cars will sport the likes of Alfred
E. Neuman and Spy vs. Spy, all seven vehicles in the program will share a specially designed
MAD Racing "Unsafe at Any Speed!" logo featuring the "Spy" characters from
Spy vs. Spy. Action Performance Companies Inc. designed the logo specifically for this latest
MAD Racing extravaganza.
Action Performance, the leader in licensed motorsports collectibles, also will produce a series
of limited edition MAD Racing die-cast replicas. The following cars, drivers and MAD characters
will be part of the program:

NASCAR drivers Wallace, Kahne, Mayfield and Waltrip will roll out their MAD Racing machines
during the NASCAR Busch and NEXTEL Cup Series events at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Oct. 30-31,
2004. That same weekend, the Coughlin brothers will share their MAD Racing pro stock machines
with drag racing fans at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lasoski will round out the
program with his MAD Racing sprint car, racing on November 5 and 6 at The Dirt Track at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway.
In addition to their on-track hijinks with NASCAR teammates Kahne and Mayfield, Spy vs. Spy
have been the subject for a series of new commercials promoting Mountain Dew. This season,
both Mayfield and Kahne share sponsorships from the soft drink brand.
"In recent years, MAD Racing has been a growing presence on the race scene," explained
Fred Wagenhals, Action Performance’s chairman, president and CEO. "It started with a few
specials over the years in the NHRA and now has evolved into this cross-circuit event. Visually,
the cars are incredibly creative and are an inspiration from the original MAD Magazine artists’
works, including Antonio Prohias, who created the Spy vs. Spy characters, and Norman Mingo,
a portrait artist who developed the definitive Alfred E. Neuman rendering."
MAD Racing die-cast collectibles will be available through Action’s standard distribution channels,
including the 16-member ARC distributor network and the RCCA collector’s club. For more information,
