MastroNet Employee Wins PSA World Series of Grading

PSA World Series of Sports Card Grading© Winner MastroNet, Inc., the hobby's most prominent auction house, was proud to learn that their in-house card expert, Derek Grady, came away with a victory at the first annual PSA World Series of Grading. Grady, a longtime hobbyist and respected card authority, was awarded the top cash prize of $2,500. The contest provided for the evaluation of 30 different cards, ranging from vintage to modern issues, within a 15-minute time limit. "The test was more challenging than I had imagined it would be, and it was a fun experience," said Grady. "I don't think most people realize how much detail is involved in card grading. There is a lot to know, not only in terms of the card issues' characteristics, but also in training your eyes to spot 'doctoring' and irregularities."

Andy Broome came in second place in the competition and, although PSA had announced before the event that only one prize would be awarded, the company presented a 1955 Bowman Willie Mays card graded PSA NM-MT 8 to the runner-up. This card had been used as one of the subjects in the test, and Broome was ecstatic with the news.
