A NASCAR® Weekend to Remember - Anniversaries and Special Paint Schemes Distinguish the Night Races at Lowe’s® Motor Speedway

Starting with tonight’s NASCAR Busch Series under the lights at Lowe’s® Motor Speedway, several of NASCAR’s top drivers and teams are making the most of their North Carolina homecoming by fielding a variety of special paint schemes throughout the race weekend.

As part of the Lowe’s® Presents The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 NASCAR Busch Series race that kicks off the weekend festivities, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson will roll out a pair of SpongeBob SquarePants™-themed Chevrolet race cars. Both cars include imagery taken from the upcoming animated movie featuring SpongeBob and his undersea pals.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie also will be part of the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Lowe’s® Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 16. The film is the basis for a special paint scheme to be featured on the No. 41 Target Dodge driven by Casey Mears for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Additionally, Sterling Marlin, Mears’ teammate at CGR, will field a special purple No. 40 Prilosec Dodge in lieu of his typical silver Coors Light paint scheme.

Johnson also will pull double duty with paint scheme specials when he joins the rest of his Hendrick Motorsports teammates to salute the 20-year anniversary of the storied organization during Saturday night’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race. Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte and Brian Vickers each will drive race cars featuring their "standard" paint schemes recast with two-tone grey paint to symbolize Hendrick Motorsports’ "platinum" anniversary. The vehicles also will include the official "Hendrick 20 Years" logo.

This weekend is a busy time for notable anniversaries, as Richard Childress Racing also will mark its 35th year in operation with "throwback" paint schemes featured on the team’s race cars driven by Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Robby Gordon. The cars also will include an official "RCR 35th Anniversary" logo. Fans will get their first look at the logo aboard the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet, driven by Ron Hornaday, and Harvick’s No. 21 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Chevrolet during tonight’s NASCAR Busch Series race.

For the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup event on Saturday night, the No. 29 GM Goodwrench car will echo the classic Wrangler paint scheme made famous by Dale Earnhardt when he won two NASCAR Cup Series championships with RCR in 1986 and 1987. Meanwhile, the No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet will resemble the famous 1995 Silver Select paint scheme, and the No. 30 AOL car will carry the original colors featured on the RCR’s first-ever winning car, the No. 3 Piedmont Airlines Chevrolet that Ricky Rudd piloted to the winner’s circle in 1983.

Additionally, Joe Nemechek, last week’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series race winner in Kansas, will aim for the winner’s circle behind the wheel of the No. 01 U.S. Army/G.I. Joe 40th Anniversary Chevrolet Monte Carlo. He will drive the car, which includes an official "G.I. Joe 40th Anniversary" logo and an Army camouflage design, in Saturday’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series night race.
