PSA Marks 8 Millionth Card With A Perfect 10
A gem mint 1985 Fleer Roger Clemens rookie card was registered as the eight millionth card graded
by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), a division of Collectors Universe, Inc., (NASDAQ: CLCT).
Submitted by Kevin Savage of Mid America Cards, Maumee, Ohio, the card was graded PSA GEM-MT 10, and
the historic serial number, 08000000, was printed on the encapsulation holder's insert.
"The eight million card mark is a great milestone for PSA because it represents the strength of
our brand and the enormous support from the marketplace," said PSA President Joe Orlando.
"PSA has graded more cards to date than all other existing card grading services combined. Collectors
and dealers can both be assured that, if they choose to get their cards graded by PSA, there will be an
unmatched number of potential buyers for their product."
"The eight million number is also significant because, like Roger Clemens himself, it shows that PSA
has been able to maintain its level of excellence and consistency throughout the years. While many other
grading services have faded away, gone out of business or lost market share, PSA has continued to grow
through the introduction of new services and programs like the PSA Set Registry and by maintaining credibility.
Our reputation and brand have never been stronger," emphasized Orlando.
The milestone was reached less than a year after PSA recorded its seven millionth card. The company received
its first sports card submission in July of 1991.
Orlando said the Clemens rookie card is an important collectible among modern baseball cards.
"Roger Clemens has been the most dominant pitcher in baseball since he entered the league over 20 years
ago. Roger's ability to sustain his level of excellence is remarkable and perhaps rivaled only by the legendary
Nolan Ryan who pitched well into his 40's while never losing his edge. There is no question that this Roger
Clemens rookie is one of the most important cards in the modern market."
"The 1985 Roger Clemens rookie card is one of the more deceptively tough, modern cards to locate in PSA
Gem Mint 10 condition. Poor centering and print problems plague this issue. His 1985 Fleer example is one of
four key rookie cards featuring the future Hall of Fame pitcher. The other three are his 1984 Fleer Update,
1985 Donruss and 1985 Topps issues. All four Clemens rookie cards are popular with collectors."
