The Topps Company has announced a multi-year agreement with McDonald's to be a national sponsor of the McDonald's All American High School Basketball Games, which will take place on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Cox Arena in San Diego.

This historic event will feature the top male and female prep basketball players in what many experts consider the nation's most premier high school all star game. A portion of the proceeds will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) and its Ronald McDonald House program.

"Pairing the premier post-season all star game in high school sports with this historic trading card maker adds a new level of prestige to this event," said Michon Ellis, director of McDonald's All American Games. "We know Topps will capture the essence of the McDonald's All American Games like no one else can."

In addition to its official sponsorship, Topps is creating several trading card sets commemorating past and present McDonald's All Americans. Topps will:

  • Offer 20 different McDonald's All American Alumni cards exclusively on-line at www.eTopps.com. The cards will be available beginning March 20.
  • Create personal trading cards on site for each of the All Americans and present them to the players at the awards banquet.
  • Create an additional trading card set featuring each of the All Americans in game action. Each player will receive copies of the set.
  • Host the 2006 McDonald's All American Charity Auction on www.TheToppsVault.com. Proceeds will benefit The Ronald McDonald House.

The 29th annual McDonald's All American ® Boys High School Basketball Game begins at 7:00 p.m. (PST) and will be broadcast live on ESPN from San Diego State's Cox Arena, March 29. The fifth annual Girls Game will tip off earlier that day at 4:30 p.m. (PST) and be broadcast on ESPN2, Thursday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. (PST).

"We are pleased to be associated with the country's premiere high school sporting event," said Warren Friss, VP and GM – Topps Sports.

Since its inception, more than 800 players have competed in the McDonald's All American Games, forming an elite list that reads like a Who's Who in basketball history.

McDonald's All American athletes include basketball greats Michael Jordan (retired), Magic Johnson (retired), Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets); NCAA men's players Rudy Gay (Connecticut), J.J. Redick (Duke) and Dee Brown (Illinois), as well as women's NCAA stars Candace Parker (Tennessee), Ivory Latta (North Carolina), and Seimone Augustus (LSU).
